UPDATE:  The killer and his father were also charged in May, 2009 with a number of assaults with a weapon after assaulting the Hunts at their home.  On March 10, 2011 the trial ended after many delays. WE WERE INFORMED ALL CHARGES WERE DROPPED AGAIN! It was reported that they admitted they were guilty of the assaults with a weapon at the trial on the stand and it was clear with the evidence they were guilty but the crown dropped all charges for a general peace bond

Below are pictures of Josh Hunt's grave and the injuries Gary Hunt received in May,2009 from their assault at the Hunts residence.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS?  THIS GUY GOT AWAY WITH MURDER AND NOW ASSAULTS WITH WEAPONS.......WHAT'S GOING TO STOP HIM? WHAT’S NEXT?

We have been advised that he doesn't even have a criminal record.

Pictures above of Gary Hunt's injuries after being assaulted by the killer and his father with a hockey stick and a (2x2 which they named the HUNT STICK and even told the Edmonton Police this)  in May 2009 at the Hunts home.  This assault took place two days after the Hunts applied for a peace bond through the courts because the killer would drive past the Hunts resident at least once per day from  December 19,2008 (which started one day after he was acquitted of  the murder) until May 22, 2009.  When driving past the Hunts home he would flip them the finger, laugh and make threatening comments.

BULLYING

Fifteen years ago there were two boys in two different elementary schools.  Their names were Josh and AJ.
Josh had learning challenges throughout school, and he would often come home and call himself ‘stupid’.   Off and on throughout his short life Josh was victimized by bullies.  Due to Josh’s low self-esteem from his learning challenges he lacked the confidence and assertiveness needed to stand up to his abusers.
AJ had a history of bullying from an early age.  It eventually led into breaking into people’s homes as well as assaults with weapons.
Josh and AJ lived 2 blocks from one another.  On October 14, 2006, AJ took a butcher knife and plunged into Josh’s heart, splitting it into half.
Over the last 5 years I have had the unpleasant experience of running into AJ’s father and several times he clearly stated to me that it was a ‘lawful kill’!  I realized that AJ’s father is a bully too!
Bullying needs to be dealt with in the early ages.  They need to be held accountable for their actions immediately.  AJ never was so it just got bigger and bigger.
The kids that are, or could be, victims to bullies need to be taught how to have confidence and how to be assertive without being aggressive when standing up to  their bully.  Lots of in-class role playing may help.
I wanted to say so much more but it was hard enough just to say this.  Maybe one day I will be stronger.

Dear:  Mr. and Mrs. Hunt

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you both so much for choosing me as the winner of the Joshua Hunt Safety Award.  I truly appreciate your decision and am honored to have even been a finalist.  I hope that my resource guide can empower many young people to help diminish school violence.  Bullying and violence is something that I have been faced with throughout my educational career.  Although I have been able to overcome the repercussions of my experiences, I am aware that many people struggle to get through the harsh experiences of teenage life.  As a future Child and Youth Worker I hope to implement my Bro Sis concept into many school systems to try and make an impact on ending school violence.  I can only hope that in the near future teachers, students, families, and many others will realize what a big issue this is that needs to be dealt with.  Thank you so much again for choosing me and I can assure you will not regret your decision.  I am honored to have this accomplishment and truly blessed to have been chosen.

Sincerely,
Erika van der Grinten

Canada.  Unfortunately this story is true. We wish it wasn't.

As Canadians and citizens of Canada we need to stand together to ensure that fatal crimes like this don't continue to happen.  It is important to the people that a person that commits murder should not be permitted to continue to walk our streets affecting the safety of others.  Life and family are precious.

Why should someone be able to kill and walk free on our streets?  Again this is a safety issue for all.  Murder is a very serious and hennas crime that affects peoples life forever.
